Forum Title: Advice on painting metal building
Got asked to submit a bid on painting this local building. It's obviously going to need to be stripped to the bare metal. Any advice on how to strip off all the old paint? And what paints from SW do you recommend for this? Never painted exterior metal. Thanks!

There are obviously several ways to tackle this, depending on the material and labor budgets. Do you know if the metal is galvanized? And what's on there now? Fast & Cheap: Scrape and wire-brush the peeling/rusting spots, spot prime with ProCryl primer and topcoat with A-100 or Super Paint if latex is on there now. If you want to strip it, I'd say get some fives of Smart Strip Pro. Then same procedure as above, unless you'd like to go with high performance coatings. SherCryl and Zero VOC Acrylic are self-priming on bare metal, so two coats will do. They will have excellent color and gloss retention.
